Ziggo Dome approached us with the request to create a design for a roof garden on one of their roofs that is not yet in use. The roof garden had to match the wishes of the future tenant. There were a number of challenges that the design had to take into account. The first challenge was its surroundings with an unattractive view and a lot of noise from the adjacent roads. For this reason, we designed the roof garden as a green oasis facing inward, except for one spot: the viewpoint towards the square at the front of the Ziggo Dome, where the audience gathers for a performance. The second challenge was that the entrance to the roof garden was about 60 cm higher than the existing roof. To eliminate this difference, we designed a wooden runner to match the height of the entrance. This creates height differences in the roof garden that can be used as informal seating areas.
